Dimming

Dimming an energy-saving bulb is very different to dimming an incandescent bulb. As a result there is no way to guarantee compatibility with specific dimmers and bulbs without testing them.

This page should help you select dimmer switches that have been tested for compatibility with dimmable Plumen Bulbs.

Note that the Original & Baby 001 and the CFL 002 are not dimmable, so they will not work with any dimmers even those listed as compatible below.

The dimmers on these lists have been tested by Plumen, however the list is by no means exhaustive. Dimmable Plumen bulbs should work with most trailing-edge dimmers & dimmers that state they are compatible with LEDs.

Some dimmers have a minimum load to function correctly, meaning that multiple bulbs connected to one dimmer will have better performance than a single bulb.

If your dimmer switch is more than 10 years old, it is unlikely to be compatible with any energy saving bulb due to changes in the way dimmer switches work.

REST OF WORLD

We have only currently performed testing with European, US & Japanese Dimmers. Dependent on your region, our listed dimmers may be compatible with your setup or you may need to experiment with dimmers in your home country.

COMPATIBILITY

A dimmer being listed as “compatible” means that the bulbs can be dimmed across the whole range, although the bulb’s dimming performance may not exactly match what you’re used to seeing when dimming an incandescent or halogen bulb due to the different technologies involved.

Compatible dimmers may still have less dimming range than an incandescent or halogen bulb, dim less smoothly than an incandescent or halogen bulb, have a slight flicker or buzz at certain dimmer levels. However, this will not affect ordinary operation.
