Our bulbs are ingredients. That’s why we love working with amazing designers who have the skills to turn them into something even more extraordinary. Having worked with Samuel Wilkinson on the iconic 001 (a design that’s been published worldwide and is included in the permanent collections of the MOMA, The Cooper-Hewitt collection, and The V&A) the next step was to design a shade that celebrated the 001 from every perspective.
The Vessel Designers
Samuel Wilkinson is committed to designing interesting objects and spaces – something that’s apparent in all his work as he brings a fresh, dynamic approach to both form and function. With a deep understanding of materials, he’s able to push the boundaries of design to achieve exceptional detail and craftsmanship in his work.
To produce the Vessel shade Samuel worked with Decode, a contemporary lighting brand that champions London based designers to a global market. Decode produce collections of progressive, accessible and functional lighting for both commercial and domestic spaces.

The Vessel Design
The Vessel was designed specifically to complement the flowing forms of the Plumen 001. Inspired by a ‘ship in a bottle’, the 001 sits proudly in the middle of the Vessel. When illuminated, the glass tint mutes the light without hiding the form and produces an unexpected, irregular reflection that appears holographic.
The glass of each shade is blown, without a mould, by a local master craftsman and is cleanly cut across the base to direct the brightness of the bulb downwards. The shades are available in clear, smoked grey or amber glass.

The Vessel Deployed
With its various glass colours, the 001 and Vessel partnership can strike the perfect balance in all sorts of spaces. We’ve seen the shade pop up in some of the most stunning interiors across the globe, from striking bathrooms…

Atticus and Milo
To spacious kitchens…

Devon Touch
And everything in between…

Round Robin

We’re excited to see how Vessel designs evolve as we add new Plumen bulbs to our range. If you use them in your space or see something awesome out in the wild, always #plumen when you post so we can see and share it too.
