SAFETY FIRST!

Switch off the mains electricity supply at the fuse box by flipping the main circuit breakers (usually a pair) to OFF and make sure it can’t accidentally be switched back on by removing the fuse or lock the box if you can.

Before starting any electrical work get yourself a voltage tester. Use this to test the lighting circuit to ensure there is no longer any power running to it. This will confirm whether the circuits are dead and safe to work on.

Once you have finished, check all of your work with voltage tester for lighting circuits.

The Plumen Pendant must be installed in accordance with local Building Regulations. Remember  If in any doubt, or where required by law, consult a competent person who is registered with an electrical certification scheme.

You should never take risks with electrical safety. To recap, you should follow the below safety precautions:

  1. Switch off the main power at the fuse box. Make sure it can’t be turned on by removing the circuit fuse.
  2. You can also switch off the main circuit breaker and lock it if possible. You can attach a note to the unit to advise people that you are working on the circuit.
  3. Using a voltage tester, check the circuit is dead.

Before you get going, make sure you read all of the instructions in full. If you don’t feel confident DIY-ing it then we recommend you consult a certified electrician to assist you.

SAFETY FIRST!

Switch off the mains electricity supply at the fuse box by flipping the main circuit breakers (usually a pair) to OFF and make sure it can’t accidentally be switched back on by removing the fuse or lock the box if you can.

First, test the light to ensure there is no longer any power running to it, using a voltage tester, then remove the cover to expose the wiring. Then disconnect the flex wires leading to your old lamp using your cable cutters. Now, unscrew all of the wires from the terminals and unscrew the ceiling rose from the ceiling.

Step 1: Fix the bracket to the ceiling

First you’ll need to loosen the cable grip from the ceiling rose. Loosen the cable grip and then lower the ceiling rose.

We can now fix the new bracket for your Plumen Pendant to the ceiling. Hold the bracket in its final position and use a pencil to mark your drill holes using the bracket as a guide. Drill your holes using a 5.5mm drill bit and insert the Rawlplugs (you might need a hammer to tap these in). Now attach the bracket using the screws provided and a screwdriver.

Step 2:  Adjust the length of your cable

Your Plumen Pendant comes with a generous two metres of cable so that you can adjust it to the length you require. Consider where you want your bulb to start, take into account the length of the ceiling rose and drop cap pendant. You can either cut the cable to length or tuck the excess cable inside the ceiling rose. Make sure you tighten the grub screw.

Step 3:  Wire your pendant to the mains.

Now we’re going to wire your new pendant to the mains. Connect the brown wire to the live terminal and the blue wire to the neutral terminal. Take the earth core to the earth terminal then connect the live (brown) wire of the pendant flex to the live terminal and the neutral (blue) wire to the neutral terminal. Ensure the electrical connections are tight and no loose strands of wire are left out of the connector block.

Step 4: Secure your ceiling rose

Push the ceiling rose flush to the ceiling and tighten the cable tie screw.  Your pendant is now fitted.

Step 5: Turn on the lights

Now screw in your chosen Plumen bulb, perhaps the iconic Plumen 001 or one of our retro-feel WattNott bulbs like Willow and Wilma. Finally switch your electricity back on at the fuse box and test your connection by turning on the light. Well done, you’ve fitted your pendant!
